Sometimes I sit and think of why I feel so trapped within my own soul — have past traumas destroyed parts that I just can’t seem to really let go of?

I know life is good now and I can see the bridge that I can cross but there is something holding me back and for that I cannot foresee.

Am I trapped?

Am I trapped because I’ve put myself there, or am I trapped because forces unknown to me have put themselves there, a force that I cannot see?

The force holds me tight: I’m wrapped up within it, I can’t breathe, I fight to hold on. What is the entrapment that has me so strong within its grip?

I see the way others have no fear, the way their lives move forward, but here I am, unable to move, stuck within myself, a force so strong I can barely breathe.

My heart is racing, jumping out of my chest.

The cracks

Slowly but surely, I can see the cracks — the cracks of the bubble that surrounds me. Gently at first, I try to break free, first my fingers and then my hand.

I pull back, fearful of the unknown, the uncertainty that I call my own. My heart is racing, jumping out of my chest, I can hear the forces getting closer, my heart feels like it’s going to explode.

I’ve found myself away from your chains.

Let me be free

I fight once more, I find my strength. I’m braver than I think I am. I need to break free from these heavy chains, I need to be free and to live life again.

I’m nearly there, I scream and shout, “Let me be free and live my own life!” I take a breath and I’m finally found.

I’ve found myself away from your chains, I escaped the chaos, my life is mine. I have a long way to go but you can no longer drag me down: my life is now mine, I have broken free from your heavy chains.
