Spring 2023: The ‘diagnosis disadvantage’

The surge in more widespread learning around neurodiversity has prompted people of all ages to question different wiring as the likely explanation for their lifetime’s experiences.

A bit of online investigation may be followed by a courageous visit to the GP, yet many walk out confused and disappointed upon learning they will be waiting years to be assessed. Some people even describe being dismissed outright if their presentation or description of the ‘evidence’ doesn’t match their GP’s grasp of what autism and/or ADHD “look like”.
